Our Story

Spark Bio was born from a simple but powerful belief: every person deserves the opportunity to thrive. Founded in 2015 by a group of passionate educators, healthcare workers, and community organizers, we started with a single literacy program in a small village in Guatemala.

What began as a modest effort to provide books and basic education to 50 children has grown into a global movement impacting over 50,000 lives across 18 countries. Our journey has been fueled by the incredible resilience of the communities we serve and the unwavering dedication of our volunteers, donors, and partners.

Today, Spark Bio operates multiple programs spanning education, healthcare, sustainable development, and emergency relief. But our core mission remains unchanged: to ignite positive change and empower communities to build their own bright futures.

Our Journey

2015

The Spark Begins

Founded by Dr. Sarah Martinez and five co-founders who shared a vision of educational equity. Launched our first literacy program in rural Guatemala, serving 50 children with donated books and volunteer teachers.

2016

Expanding Horizons

Achieved 501(c)(3) nonprofit status. Expanded to three countries with 200 students enrolled. Launched our mobile health clinic pilot program in collaboration with local healthcare providers.

2017

Healthcare Initiative

Introduced our first mobile health clinic, providing basic medical services to 1,500 people in remote areas. Partnered with major universities for volunteer medical professionals.

2018

Clean Water Projects

Launched our sustainable development division with clean water well construction. Built 15 wells in the first year, providing clean water to over 5,000 people. Received the Global Impact Award for Innovation in Community Development.

2019

Women's Empowerment

Started the Women's Economic Development program with microfinance and business training. Served 300 women in the first cohort with a 90% business success rate. Expanded operations to 8 countries.

2020

COVID-19 Response

Rapidly adapted programs for pandemic response. Distributed 50,000 masks, hand sanitizer, and essential supplies. Launched digital learning platforms to continue education during lockdowns. Provided emergency food assistance to 8,000 families.

2021

Youth Leadership

Established the Youth Leadership Academy to mentor the next generation of changemakers. Graduated first class of 150 young leaders. Reached milestone of 25,000 lives directly impacted.

2022

Emergency Relief Division

Created dedicated emergency response team to provide rapid disaster relief. Responded to 8 major disasters including floods, earthquakes, and hurricanes. Provided immediate aid to over 15,000 disaster survivors.

2023

Global Expansion

Expanded operations to 18 countries across 4 continents. Reached 40,000 people through direct programs. Launched innovative solar power project bringing electricity to 12 remote villages. Raised $2 million in annual donations.

2024

Continued Growth

Surpassed 50,000 lives impacted. Opened regional offices in 5 countries for better local coordination. Launched advanced STEM education programs in partnership with tech companies. Achieved highest rating from charity watchdog organizations for transparency and effectiveness.

Founder & Executive Director
